Winner of the Grand Prix of the Generation 14plus International Jury for Best Feature Film at this year's Berlinale.

Set in 1981 in a small town on the Kapiti Coast north of Wellington, Shopping reveals the racial tensions of the era through the eyes of a half-Samoan teenager. Sixteen-year-old Willie divides his time between working in a department store and looking after his little brother, Solomon. After a chance encounter with Bennie, a charismatic and seasoned shoplifter, Willie is drawn into a criminal world that affords him escape from his volatile father. But as Willie finds himself in over his head, Solomon is left vulnerable at home.

Shopping is the debut feature from award-winning writer/director team Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland (The Six Dollar Fifty Man, MIFF 2009).
