Do you know the man behind the white beard?

Desperate to find money to buy a fashionable duffel coat, frequently fired layabout Daniel (Jean-Pierre Léaud) gets a job dressing up as Santa Claus. Reluctant at first, he soon warms to his new position – especially when he discovers that it is a whole lot easier to impress (and occasionally fondle) girls when you're dressed as Father Christmas.

Sly, salacious, yet oddly endearing, in Father Christmas Has Blue Eyes Léaud presented a model of disaffected, wayward youth that would later form the inspiration for his role in director Jean Eustache's iconic The Mother and the Whore. In this triumph of picaresque cinema, Léaud and Eustache combine for a charming and sometimes touching romp through the eccentricities of small-town life.
