Diving deep into darkest fairytale, Berlinale award-winning director Bence Fliegauf (Just the Wind, MIFF 2012) takes an unflinching look at separation and loss through the kind of fantasy storytelling we rarely see in an adult context.

Recently separated from her husband and dealing with the death of her mother, Rebeka takes her young son and goes in search of her estranged father, telling the child – whom she calls ‘dwarf' – a haunting tale of a huntsman, a fairy and a fox along the way.

Described as somewhere between Terrence Malick, Andrei Tarkovsky and a horror film, Lily Lane uses a remarkable mix of enchanting visuals and eerie sound design to explore the stories parents tell their children, while affirming the redemptive power of fairytales at their most grim.
