"Shines a damning light on the damage done by international aid agencies whose well-meaning but ignorant assumptions turned a nightmare into an unsolvable tragedy." - Variety

In the wake of a disaster as devastating as the 2010 Haiti earthquake it's inevitable that even the most altruistic attempts to help will fall short of what is needed. What then, of aid efforts that are driven by ego, played out for PR and guided by paternalistic notions?

Haitian Raoul Peck helms this documentary that strips bare the agendas of foreign entities during the relief effort and highlights the billions of dollars given to the country that have been mismanaged and misdirected. A former Haitian government minister, Peck has a unique insight to show the depth of misunderstanding of Haitian society and the lack of agency given to the people to determine their own future.
