HUMPDAY (MA15+)

USA, 2009 (MIFF 2009, International Panorama)

Director: Lynn Shelton

A buddy movie gone wild.

When the doorbell rings in the middle of the night, happily married Ben finds his comfortable life shaken up by the return of old college buddy Andrew, a Kerouac-wannabe rambling hipster.

As the two rekindle their old friendship (through drinks and partying) an old pattern of one-upmanship resurfaces. Bravado and a drunken mutual dare find them deciding to enter the homemade sex film festival Humpfest - with a video of the two of them getting it on. Will either man be man enough to back out of the dare?

Cemented firmly in the American indie movement of low budgets and improvised scripts, Humpday is the humorously clever antidote to the wash of mainstream one-joke sex comedies.

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance film festival.
