SOUNDS AND SILENCE

Switzerland, 2009 (MIFF 2010, Documentaries)

Director: Peter Guyer, Norbert Wiedmer

The passionate career of a man obsessed with music.

German music producer and founder of ECM, Manfred Eicher, has been responsible for introducing the world to over three hundred albums and countless new sounds. In Sounds and Silence documentary filmmakers Peter Guyer and Norbert Wiedmer follow this sonic prospector on a journey through the soundscapes of his life.

From back rooms to concert halls and recording studios, we meet many of the musicians he's worked with and encounter their stories, lives and passion. Sounds and Silence grants unparalleled access to the spaces and people connected to one of music's greatest contributors.

“It's not a film about quantity and superlatives. It's about artistic substance and musical quality and about the very special conditions of the creation.” - filmmaker Peter Guyer
