John Pilger presents a documentary impression with interviews of Nicaraguan society under the present Sandinista
Government, relates a brief history of the events of this century, and returns to protest against American intervention and the implicit support it receives from establishment media.
The film makes no secret of its admiration for Sandinista reforms and its abhorrence of American policy. Footage from
the 1920s of American planes carrying our history's first recorded dive bombing of civilians, and the glib logic-chopping of a senior C.l.A. officer interviewed in his
own office, give strong support to the film's attitude.
Pilger puts his case coolly and (to many people) persuasively. John Pilger, an Australian, has been working in England since
1962 as a feature writer and special correspondent, and has won more Press honours than any British Journalist. His television documentaries include. "The Quiet Mutiny"
(1967) "Year Zero: The Silent Death of Cambodia" (1979) and
"The Truth Game" (1983).
Alan Lowery: born 1949, studied and worked at the Australian Film and Television School 1973-76, thence to ATN-7,
Sydney; now settled in London. His other productions with
Pilger are "The Outsiders" (1983), "Burp!" (1982-84) and a
forthcoming film about Australian Aborigines for Central TV
(ITV).
