Take an incredible trip to the subterranean world of New York's family of street people living in a disused railway tunnel below Central Park. Writers, poets, drop-outs, black, white, young, smart, stupid, but all with a vision. This strange nucleus describes why, how and when, while imparting their own special brand of philosophy on us and each other.

The anomaly of these people lies in their almost tribal existence literally living below the very feet of the throbbing pinnacle of Western culture, the Big Apple itself.

Filmed over four years, we are taken through the lives of those who remain (and remain alive), those who move on and those who inexplicably return. Their fierce desire for stability and a sense of place is such that even when the tunnel is re-opened for service, they remain, despite the deafening roar of trains thundering by their fire. But as their stories unfold, we realise that in their lives, the tunnel has light at both ends.
