During the 30s in Paris, Hungarian-born Andre Friendman reinvented himself as Robert Capa, and turned to photography to make some quick money. He quickly establishing himself as a risk-taker in work (during the Spanish Civil War he routinely diced wrth death to take the perfect photo) and life (he gambled heavily to finance his Magnum photo agency). Over the next 30 years Capa reinforced his status as the preeminent war photographer whose desire to tell stories through pictures was only one side of his beguiling personality. His dalliances and connections with Hollywood, both direct and indirect, are unearthed, from his one attempt at acting, in an all-but-forgotten B-movie, to his intense affair with Ingrid Bergman during the filming of Hitchcock's Notorious.
