“A delightful melding of visual style and narrative pirouettes, Ernest & Celestine is a just-about-perfect hand drawn animated feature.” - Screen Daily

Celestine is a little mouse trying to avoid a dental career; Ernest is a big bear craving an artistic outlet. When Celestine meets Ernest, they overcome their natural enmity by forging a life of crime together.

This magical film is recent animation school graduate Benjamin Renner's debut feature, made in collaboration with A Town Called Panic (MIFF 09, also direct from Cannes that year) directors Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patar. Inspired by Gabrielle Vincent's children's book of the same name, the directors have constructed an ornately detailed world realised in vibrant watercolour that complements the nature of Ernest and Celestine's colourful relationship. Receiving a special mention in the Director's Fortnight awards at Cannes, Ernest & Celestine is a cinematic delight.

Ernest & Celestine has received a special exemption from the Classification Board for the Saturday 11 August session so that anybody under 18 can attend.
