In this short film by Yorgos Lanthimos (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, MIFF 2017; The Lobster, MIFF 2015), a strange train encounter sets off a literally life-changing chain of events.

Nimic stars Matt Dillon as a middle-aged cellist who finds himself trapped in a cycle of mirrorings and repetitions. With its eerie twists, unsettling music and slick cinematography, this film confronts viewers with a provocation on identity – and replaceability – and proves itself a distillation of Lanthimos’ cinematic chops.
