MIFF and Orchestra Victoria showcase the film scores that have captured the Victorian landscape and those that have transformed it into imagined pasts and futures.

In film, music creates the emotional landscape of people and place. A special programming collaboration between MIFF and Orchestra Victoria for the festival’s 70th edition, Sounds of the Screen: Movie Music Across Victorian Landscapes will reflect on the rich history of Victorian filmmaking in two acts. The first act will focus on place and feature music from Picnic at Hanging Rock, Noise and Mad Max (the last two of which will screen as part of MIFF 70’s commemorative ‘Melbourne on Film’ strand). The second act will feature the music of Oscar-nominated, Ballarat-born David Hirschfelder and include scores from The Railway Man and The Dressmaker.
