Volunteers

Volunteer applications for MIFF 2025 are now open!

Are you passionate about film and enjoy a fast-paced festival environment? Be part of MIFF 2025!

Each year, MIFF engages an exceptional team of volunteers to help deliver the MIFF experience to our passionate audience. Primary activities include cinema ushering, queue management, ticket scanning and providing customer service to MIFF attendees.

If you are interested in working in the film or events industries, it’s also a fantastic way to be a part of a world-renowned festival, and a great way to get a foot in the door. Many people who previously worked, or currently work, with MIFF started out as volunteers!

Please complete the Volunteer Application Form. This form is for all applicants, including those who have volunteered at MIFF before.

To be eligible to apply as a volunteer, you must:

  • be aged 18 years or over
  • be available across 7–24 August for the festival delivery period and on Saturday 2 August for the Volunteer Training Day
  • read the position description for a detailed explanation of the role, including its inherent physical requirements
  • read the MIFF Volunteer Terms of Engagement and accept these terms before submitting the online form

“It was a great opportunity to discover the film industry in Melbourne and to meet lovely people!”

“Really felt like part of a team!”

“I had a wonderful two weeks. I loved being on shift and engaging with the patrons. Fabulously done.”

“I have volunteered for a few years with MIFF and I think the volunteer program, the perks and the appreciation of the volunteers the team shows is really fantastic. It's always a great festival and atmosphere and I feel really lucky to get to be a part of it.”

“I really enjoyed the chance to participate – it is such a contrast to my regular paid work. I really relished chatting to so many people (patrons, vollies and venue staff) and essentially listening, being a friendly face and catching some free films. Now I am keen to seek out other festival volunteering gigs!”

“I loved it; it was three times as good as I expected. I really enjoyed meeting other volunteers and watching films on shift, and off shift, and I thought MIFF was brilliantly organised. So many of the films I saw were outstanding, especially the documentaries, and the Q&As with filmmakers were all outstanding.”

“Thank you for running a wonderful volunteer program that truly appreciates people giving up their time to do it.”
