I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS

USA / Canada, 2009 (MIFF 2010, First Encounters)

Director: Glenn Ficarra, John Requa

Schemes can come true.

When family man Steve Russell (Jim Carrey) has a near-death experience his American dream starts to feel a little less dreamy. Jumping out of the closet and straight into jail for fraud, Russell meets blue-eyed southern boy Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor), his soul mate and one true love, who may just put him on the straight and narrow.

From the writers of Bad Santa comes a film just as dark, hilarious and audacious, pairing a deliciously old-school, over-the-top Jim Carrey with the wide-eyed innocence of Ewan McGregor. Fast-paced, irreverent and based on real events, I Love You Phillip Morris is a touching romance between a con-man and the man he loves.
