<p>Lightweight debt collector David is on the lowest rung on the short ladder of Icelandic petty crims. Dreaming of climbing his way to a prestigious position in the mob hierarchy, he instead mostly spends his time penning bad stream of consciousness poetry and rewatching old kung fu films.</p>

<p>When his delusional landlord poses as a crime boss, David concocts a scheme to get respect from his mobster bosses - but it isn't long before things start to spiral out of control.</p>

<p>Putting a slacker spin on the mob genre, <em>The Higher Force</em> is a hilariously deadpan comedy of errors directed by Olaf de Fleur Johannesson, whose drama <em>The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela</em> appeared at MIFF in 2008.
