THE QUIET EARTH

Director Geoff Murphy / 1985 / New Zealand

A global experiment malfunctions leaving only one scientist alone in a world where every living thing has disappeared. Zac Hobson begins a frantic search for other survivors, but at the same time indulges himself in the pleasures of wealth and materialism that remain.

He finds two other survivors - one a woman, and together the trio struggle for survival and try to destroy the source of the experiment

Using only three players, director Geoff Murphy tells this sci-futuristic story with style. The film is notable for its production values: photography, special effects and especially sound mixing and music; and for fine performances from the ensemble.
