<p><b>A painter who captured the mundane as magical.</b></p> <p>Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer created works of art based on capturing the everyday, showing the lives of the 17th century middle class. It has been over 350 years since his death, and with only 36 known works in existence Vermeer's paintings continue to inspire artists, photographers, writers and filmmakers the world over.</p> <p>In <i>Views on Vermeer</i> twelve Vermeer enthusiasts reveal how the artist has influenced their work, from <i>National Geographic</i> photographer Steve McCurry, whose image of an Afghan girl become a symbol of resilience, to writer Tracy Chevalier, whose novel <i>The Girl With The Pearl Earring</i> told the story of Vermeer to a new audience.</p>
