RYUZO AND HIS SEVEN HENCHMEN

Director Takeshi Kitano / 2015 / Japan

"You got threatened by old farts?"

Yakuza boss Ryuzo is bored and sick of retirement. Over a few too many drinks, he and his former right-hand-man hatch a plan to create a team of old Yakuza. What starts as a joke soon becomes serious business, as the elderly Yakuza confront the new generation of gangsters who believe they can walk all over their ageing predecessors.

The perennially popular Japanese comedian and filmmaker "Beat" Takeshi Kitano (Outrage Beyond, MIFF 2012) returns to the world of Japanese mafia for this crowd-pleasing comedy. A box office hit in Japan, the film unites legendary actors Tatsuya Fuji (In the Realm of the Senses, MIFF 1977), Ben Hiura (Zatoichi, MIFF 2004) and Kitano himself as a grizzled detective reluctantly drawn into this hilarious mob turf war.
