Stravinsky

Director Roman Kroitor, Wolf Koenig / 1965 / Canada

This is an informal portrait of the dean of modern composers, Igor Fedorovich Stravinsky, eighty-three, now an American citizen, but still much an Old World figure with a long, rich memory of people and events in music, literature and art.

In the focus of the film is the composer's recording of his "Symphony of Psalms" with the CBC Symphony Orchestra; in the rest of the film we follow him around and listen as he reminisces. Whether he appears as conductor, composer, raconteur, or just as a man at ease with his world, he unfailingly holds one's attention.

The film was made by Roman Kroitor and Wolf Koenig who, in Lonely Boy, previously filmed a study of pops singer Paul Anka.
