This film is based on the true case of a young girl who denies her sex, dresses as a boy, and calls herself La Raulito (Little Raoul), She wants only freedom and undemanding companionship. Because she doesn't conform, she is put in prison, and then in an insane asylum. She escapes from both, and wanders the streets of Buenos Aires, sleeping in parks or by the railway, earning a little money by selling newspapers and doing small jobs in partnership with a resourceful small boy. She has no scruples about taking what she needs, and steals a coat, a bracelet and a watch. Raulito becomes known to the police as a thief, as well as an escapee. She and the small boy go together to the seaside at Necochea. Raulito again steals from a shop, but the end of her freedom is drawing near.
The figure on whom the film story is based is now forty-two, and is still in an insane asylum in Argentina.
