A short-sighted boy uncovers family secrets in an intricate, Tim Burton–esque world.

Paper Birds, created by German Heller and Federico Carlini from Baobab Studios (Bonfire, MIFF 2019; Invasion, MIFF 2016), tells the story of a child who has trouble seeing but is gifted with tremendous musical abilities. With shades of Burton’s fantastically dark oeuvre as well as The NeverEnding Story, and boasting a voice cast that includes Edward Norton (Fight Club), Joss Stone and Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), the work explores the friction between light and dark – and between our inspired and frightened selves.
