DÍAS DE SANTIAGO

Director Josué Méndez / 2004 / Peru
Días de Santiago Peru

Santiago, an intense 23-year-old soldier, has returned to Lima after years of fighting the scourge of drug-traffickers and terrorist organisations. He is a member of a lost generation, adrift in the wake of government irresponsibilities. Shocked upon his return to find Lima a hostile and chaotic city, Santiago finds no solace in his family, who want to keep him at a distance. His plans to pursue an education are increasingly thwarted as his wife threatens to leave him and his old comrades try to persuade him to join them in their dream of robbing banks. Pulled in different directions, Santiago's feelings of frustration and despair mount as it becomes clear that he is being dragged into a downward spiral of violence and destruction.

A powerful and intimate story about a search for order and balance in a chaotic world, Días de Santiago debuted at Rotterdam, where it was nominated for a Tiger award.

'Director Josué Méndez has created a distinctive portrait of life in Lima' A close and following camera, tight compositions and an intermittent voice-over positions the audience close to our hero and the frustration, anger and tragedy of the situation is brought vividly to life.' -Rotterdam Film Festival
