FAR SIDE OF THE MOON
Acclaimed theatre and film director Robert Lepage (Possible Worlds, MIFF 2001) brings to the screen an adaptation of his own play. A playful, metaphorical tale juxtaposing sibling rivalry with the US'soviet space race, Far Side of the Moon is Lepage at his most creative.
Philippe (Lepage) is a 40-something doctoral student, moonlighting as a telemarketer. He and his estranged gay brother André (also played by Lepage), a TV weatherman, reunite after the death of their mother. Old wounds are soon opened when they dispose of their mother's possessions. As the brothers bicker it becomes quite clear they have virtually nothing in common. When Philippe receives an invitation to the Soviet Union to present his theories on the superpowers' competitive exploration of the cosmos, André is the only one he can turn to when things go awry.
'as in his previous films Lepage brings a prodigious talent for startling, interwoven imagery to bear on a story laden with metaphorical possibilities.' -Variety
