ROADS TO KOKTEBEL
After the death of his wife, and soon after losing his apartment, a man takes heavily to drink. Deciding that Moscow holds no future for him he leaves the city and, together with his eight-year-old son, travels throughout Russia and the Ukraine on a search for redemption. Journeying on foot and by train, the two lost souls are pulled in different directions as they form their own desires and aspirations; the son has heard wondrous tales of gliders in the remote town of Koktebel, while the father wishes to stay with a country doctor with whom he has fallen in love.
'Roads to Koktebel is gracefully composed and moving' arresting visuals and a spaced-out, dreamy atmosphere' recall 70s Terrence Malick Badlands in the use of long-shot vista and nature close-ups, sparse musical arrangements and the alternation between movement and becalmed quietude''Variety
