Prostitution Behind the Veil
Prostitution Behind the Veil opens a window onto the difficult lives of Minna and Fariba, two young single mothers who make their way as best they can in a society that affords little opportunity to women in their position. Pushed onto the streets after the disintegration of their marriages, these women's lives are bound in a hopeless struggle for survival. Day after day they make a living from walking the streets as roadside prostitutes. With no other option, they are forced to take their small children with them into the confronting and potentially dangerous world of their work. As neighbours in cheap, single-room accommodation in the heart of busy Tehran, they share their stories, their anger and their drugs. Filmmaker Nahid Persson, who herself fled Iran 20 years ago, reveals the women's tragically moving stories with great compassion and honesty.
