Any truly international film festival would welcome the inclusion of an Irish zombie movie, and MIFF has. Dead Meat represents yet another accomplished entry in the list of films such as 28 Days Later, Undead and Shaun of the Dead, which have led the zombie renaissance of the past few years.

Out for an afternoon drive in the Irish countryside, hot, young Spanish tourist Helena loses her car, her boyfriend and practically her mind when she stumbles across an outbreak of Mad Cow-spawned zombie flu. As the newly dead rise from the sod of the Emerald Isle, Helena is transformed into an eyeball-poppin', corpse-decapitating, flaming-torch-wielding retaliator. There's also the hint of romance with the local wisecracking gravedigger.

Director Conor McMahon pays respectful homage to the master of the genre, George Romero, and a slew of other accomplished terror titans such as John Carpenter and Sam Raimi.
