CHRONOPOLIS

Director David Shea /

A Music Cinema Performance by David Shea

Futuristic, forbidding and totally original, Chronopolis is a work composed by David Shea for musical ensemble, film collage and narration, which tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical city of Chronopolis - a city built on architecture of time.

A tribute to the music of Luc Ferrari, based on the film Chronopolis (an animated film loosely based on Metropolis) by Piotr Kamer and the work of Chris Marker of La Jetée fame, this new piece is in fact a remake not of the film but its score by Luc Ferrari and the original films abstract narrative. A real and ‘virtual' ensemble will perform the piece. The image collage (compiled by Kristi Monfries and Michael Fairlie), takes the role of the traditional soundtrack in this ‘sound film', employing archive materials, photographs and new footage to relay the story of Chronopolis. Contributing musicians include Scanner and Lawrence English.
