LOVESTRUCK: Wrestling's No. 1 Fan
A decade in the making, Lovestruck is the love child of film critic and former The Movie Show co-presenter Megan Spencer. After a chance meeting with wrestling fanatic Sue Chuter in a CD store, Megan put forward her own money to bring Sue's unique story to the screen. What you see is the culmination of a financial and personal commitment by both women. Sue is truly wrestling's number one fan, having travelled to the USA to watch live stadium wrestling, collected thousands of wrestling tapes and wallpapered her home in Melbourne with over 3000 wrestling photographs.
While Lovestruck is a celebration of wrestling in all of its overblown glory - and Sue's undying devotion to it - there is more to her story than meets the eye. Like the best wrestling matches, Sue's personal life is filled with drama and triumph. “Who wants to live in a world where being ‘the same' is embraced?” says Megan. “Not me. That's why I make docu-mentaries… That's also one of the reasons why I have made this one.”
Filmmaker Megan Spencer will be attending the festival and will introduce the session on Saturday 29 July, 7.50pm at ACMI and on Monday 7 August, 7.30pm at ACMI.
