Crimson Gold was selected as the Closing Night film of Un Certain Regard and winner of the Jury Award, Un Certain Regard, at the Cannes Film Festival.

An intimate and absorbing drama, Crimson Gold is the tragedy of a man who, feeling humiliated in a word of injustice and materiality, is pushed beyond rational behaviour. Based on true events as told to director Jafar Panahi by Abbas Kiarostami, the film centres on a pizza delivery driver called Hussein, visiting wealthy neighbourhoods nightly on his motorbike—a constant reminder of his low social standing. Panahi uses Hussein's job as a means to move inside houses, behind close doors, to places free of social conformity. He exposes the hypocrisy of a system that results in tipping Hussein over the edge. Working with a largely non-professional cast, Crimson Gold is a powerful and moving film, staying with you long after leaving the cinema.

Director Jafar Panahi is a guest of the festival and will introduce the screening on Saturday 29 July, 1pm at the Forum Theatre.
