LOST AND FOUND

Director Kornél Mundruczó, Stefan Arsenijevic, Nadejda Koseva, Mait Laas, Cristian Mungiu, Jasmila Zbanic / 2005 / Bosnia/Herzegovina/Serbia-Montenegro/Bulgaria/Estonia/Hungary/Romania

Six of Central and Eastern Europe's brightest young directors come together in this omnibus feature, each giving their idiosyncratic take on the theme of ‘generation'.
In The Ritual (Nadejda Koseva, Bulgaria), a wedding party waits in suspense for the bride and groom. In Turkey Girl (Cristian Mungiu, Romania), a shy young girl goes to the capital for the first time and has to master a difficult situation. Two children in the same city are born on the same day in Birthday (Jasmila Zbanic, Bosnia-Herzegovina) but have no possibility of getting to know each other. A suicide counsellor finds himself in an existential conflict when he attempts to master his own family situation after the death of his mother in Shortlasting Silence (Kornél Mundruczó, Hungary). And in Fabulous Vera (Stefan Arsenijevic, Serbia-Montenegro), a streetcar conductor exceeds her authority and finally finds happiness.
The Estonian animated film, Gene+Ratio by Mait Laas, ties together the entertaining and satisfyingly original stories of Lost and Found.
