UGLY DUCKLING AND ME, THE

DEN gimme aeling og mig

Director Michael Hegner, Karsten Kiilerich / 2006 / Denmark

A ripsnorter that becomes hilarious in its modern context. Taking cues from the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale of a similar name, this 3D, animated comedy goes about updating the premise of an ugly duckling turning into a swan in an unorthodox fashion. The ‘me' of the story is Ratso, a success-starved, rodent impresario who persuades everyone that he is the duckling's dad. Ratso and the world's ugliest duckling set off on a perilous journey towards their big breakthrough but dangerous foes, teenage problems and unexpected paternal feelings lie ahead. “The film is almost an ironic comment on the fairytale but I still think we've preserved the spirit of Andersen's intentions. At least I like to tell myself that.” - co-director Karsten Kiilerich MIFF recommends: Age 8+. Low sense of threat and mild coarse language.
