MY SON

MON FILS A MOI

Director Martial Fougeron / 2006 / France

Winner of Best Film at San Sebastian Film Festival, My Son is a tense, domestic psychological drama depicting a disintegrating relationship between a mother and a son. Julien is a young boy in a seemingly average, suburban French family, except for one thing: His mother (played with flair by Nathalie Baye of A Pornographic Affair, Catch Me If You Can) has a fixation on him, carefully controlling the parameters of his world. Small escapes from his mother include piano lessons with his grandmother, which he uses to meet secretly with his girlfriend. When his mother discovers a love letter addressed to Julien, her fury knows no bounds. The taut fabric of the household begins to unravel as her increasingly restrictive measures against him send the family careening towards disaster.
