HONOR DE CAVALLERIA

Director Albert Serra / 2006 / Spain

The first film about Don Quixote made by flesh-and-blood Quixotes. The story of Don Quixote, the misguided knight who sets off in search of adventure (destination unknown), hovers over Honor de Cavalleria in a faint narrative imprint. In this free and minimalist adaptation of Don Quixote, the cast and crew embark on a cinematic and biographical journey that mirrors the experiences of the novel's two leading characters. The parallels between these two journeys form the central theme of the film. The result is a painterly vision about the search for adventure - and the search for narrative. “A hauntingly serene and sometimes moving experimental take on Don Quixote, Albert Serra's Honor de Cavalleria seems to have spliced that Spanish classic to Waiting for Godot via Bresson and Ozu.” - Variety
