MISTER LONELY

Director Harmony Korine / 2006 / UK/France/Ireland/USA

“I started dreaming about flying nuns falling out of airplanes and praying the whole way down and surviving. Then I started to fixate upon specific images and characters. One of them was the idea of a Michael Jackson impersonator walking the streets of Paris.” - filmmaker Harmony Korine A young American (Diego Luna) scratches out a living as a Michael Jackson impersonator in Paris. His incongruous and listless life takes a turn for the better when he happens upon a fake Marilyn Monroe (Samantha Morton) at a car show. She leads him to a commune in the highlands where she lives with her husband, Charlie Chaplin, and daughter, Shirley Temple. Here, everyone embodies a famous somebody and no-one grows old. Harmony Korine's films include Gummo and Julien Donkey-boy. Tip: Look for an appearance by the real Werner Herzog.
