TRICKS

Director Andrzej Jakimowski / 2007 / Poland

“A pitch-perfect portrait of working class life in a provincial town and of growing up as the much younger brother of an adored older sister.” - Variety

Stefek and his much older sister Elka are both affected by the absence of their father, who left years earlier for another woman. When Stefek spots his father at the train station, he puts into motion a plan to help him get closer to a father he never knew.
Director Andrzej Jakimowski's heart-warming, magic-tinged homage to his older sister, Tricks introduces us to a small provincial Polish town and to Stefek, a six-year-old boy attempting to bribe fate.
Starring non-professional actors, Jakimoski's feature has garnered multiple awards, including the Label Europa Cinemas Award at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.
