THE PLEASURE OF BEING ROBBED

Director Josh Safdie / 2008 / USA

“A charming indie title, suffused with the spirit of the French New Wave of the early sixties and possessed of a quirky likeability.” - Screen International

From 24-year-old newcomer Josh Safdie comes a free-flying, whimsical play-date with ever-curious Eléonore. Infused with naive charm, she steals from anyone and everyone - not with malice, but with a wink or a joke, and the innocence of a child.

After a bout of unbridled kleptomania, Eléonore finds herself armed with a set of keys; tracking down the accompanying car, she sets off to drive her geeky friend Josh home from New York to Boston.

Including a pit stop at the zoo and a daydream romp with a melancholy polar bear, The Pleasure of Being Robbed is a delight of pure cinema, refreshingly obsessed not with reality but with realism.
