The Karamazovs is a performance experiment by Czech director Petr Zelenka, whose claims that he wants to do the impossible: to capture the elusive character of theatre in film.

Zelenka follows the staging of an adaptation of The Brothers Karamazov by leading Czeck New Wave figure Evald Schorm, performed by Czech actors from the Dejvicke Theatre troop in Prague. In a run-down steel works in Poland, with a few remaining workers still in attendance, the rehearsal begins…
