HIGHER FORCE, THE
Stora Planid
Deadpan slacker absurdity meets mobster high jinks - plus a little kung fu - in this Icelandic comedy from Olaf de Fleur Johannesson.
Lightweight debt collector David is on the lowest rung on the short ladder of Icelandic petty crims. Dreaming of climbing his way to a prestigious position in the mob hierarchy, he instead mostly spends his time penning bad stream of consciousness poetry and rewatching old kung fu films.
When his delusional landlord poses as a crime boss, David concocts a scheme to get respect from his mobster bosses - but it isn't long before things start to spiral out of control.
Putting a slacker spin on the mob genre, The Higher Force is a hilariously deadpan comedy of errors directed by Olaf de Fleur Johannesson, whose drama The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela appeared at MIFF in 2008. Features an appearance from The Sopranos' Michael Imperioli.
