YURI'S DAY

“An allegory about Russia itself, seen here as a sort of spiritual Hotel California, from which, to paraphrase the Eagles, you can check out but you can never leave.” - Variety
Yuri's Day tells the story of the famous opera star Lyubov, as she returns to her rural hometown with her 20-year-old son Andrei for one last visit before they move to Europe.
When Andrei goes missing, Lyubov finds herself stuck in the vicious and backward small town, desperately searching for her son. As the mystery of Andrei's disappearance deepens, Lyubov finds herself blending back in as a village local, unrecognisable from her diva beginnings, trapped in a cycle of unchanging days.
Enigmatic and melancholic, with forays into surrealism, Yuri's Day is an intriguing blend of mystery and drama from director Kirill Serebrennikov (Playing the Victim).
