EXPLODING GIRL, THE

Director Bradley Rust Gray / 2009 / USA

The turmoil and romantic confusion of a 20-something college student plays out over a laconic summer in New York.

As New York stretches and groans under her feet, college student Ivy returns to roost under the city's wing for the summer. With her boyfriend growing increasingly cold during their long-distance phone calls, Ivy finds herself growing closer to her old school friend Al as they party through the Manhattan summer together.

The latest film from director Bradley Rust Gray (Salt), The Exploding Girl astutely captures the uncertainties of the early twenties, and features a stand-out performance from Zoe Kazan (Revolutionary Road; The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, MIFF 09). The film was also produced by Gray's wife and collaborator, Kim So-yong (Treeless Mountain, MIFF 09; In Between Days, MIFF 06).
