THIRST (MA15+)

Director Park Chan-wook / 2009 / South Korea

Winner of the Jury Prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

From the runaway imagination of Festival favourite Park Chan-wook (Old Boy, MIFF 2004; Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, MIFF 2006) comes Thirst.

Dubbed a ‘scandalous vampire melodrama' by Park himself, Thirst sees a priest (Song Kang-ho) granted immortality when, through a cruel twist of fate, he becomes a creature of the night. His newfound need for blood brings with it a burgeoning lust, and as his moral framework begins to crumble, he descends into a maelstrom of sexual depravity and bloodletting.

“Park takes his famed eroticization of violence, pain and cruelty to new, feverish heights, and garnishes it with deliciously sadistic gallows humor.” - Hollywood Reporter
