THE TITAN - STORY OF MICHELANGELO

Director Richard Lyford / 1950 / USA/Italy

The Titan was made between 1938 and 1940, chiefly in Florence and Rome, by the Swiss producer Curt Oertel. During the war the film was lost but afterwards discovered in France by the American Army. When seen by Robert Flaherty, it won his immediate interest; quick to appreciate the innovational virtues of The Titan, he acquired the American rights. In its original form it lasted ninety-five minutes, whereas in the reassembled and re-edited American version, equipped with a new script, an excellent score and a narrative spoken by Fredric March, it runs for 67 minutes.
