Romance Sentimentale

Director G. V. Alexandrov / 1930 / France

The makers of Potemkin, October, and The General Line were given a year's leave in 1929 but virtually no money, so that Eisenstein lectured for the London Film Society while Alexandrov and Tisse made this film. The moods of the central character, a girl pianist, are conveyed entirely by images, vis¬ual and aural: still reflections of trees and skies, ripples of water, crash of cymbals. flickering fire, a flood of full daylight following a misty sunrise.
