NOTHING BUT BROKEN DISHES
KIRIK CANAKLAR
A story of a truck-driver who leads a modest life in a suburb of Istanbul, with his wife, daughter and elderly father. A neighbour tries hard to separate the family so that he can marry the wife. After much trouble and difficulty all ends well and the family settles down to a more harmonious life.
This is the first Turkish film entered in a Melbourne Festival. Measured by Western European standards, there is a tendency towards over-acting: yet the film's freshness is both disarming and amusing. Nothing But Broken Dishes received the First Prize at the International film Festival of Istanbul in 1961 and was shown at the Film Festival of Berlin during the same year.
