MAN IS NOT A BIRD

Covek Nije Tica

Director Dušan Makavejev / 1965 / Yugoslavia

The action is set in an industrial centre in Eastern Serbia. Jan Rudinski, an engineer, comes to the town, entrusted with the assembly of some intricate machinery. He falls in love with the sensuous daughter of the couple in whose home he is staying, but while he is at a party given in his honour, the girl accepts the advances of a young truck driver. . .

The film sympathetically explores the loneliness of a man who is offered very little by a society to which he is invaluable. The director is equally at home whether he is covering industrial life or directing the intimate love scenes, which must be amongst the most erotic seen in any Eastern European films.

Diploma of Merit, Pula Festival.
