TRIO

Director Gian Franco Mingozzi / 1966 / Italy

The lives of three young people are intertwined in this initial feature by Gian Mingozzi. A young girl who wins a pop singing contest is seen to triumph in her work as a singer. An introverted youth takes to spying on a bachelor across the way, who leads a lonely life that somehow attracts the boy. At one time he decides to rob the bachelor, but eventually feels that he needs this man to show him some way of coping with his own feelings. The third, a girl, who takes lovers and leaves them without any remorse, is unable to find balance in her life. This refreshing film has a mixture of almost documentary segments of the young world and the more personal adventures of its trio. The director is impressive in his handling of the actors and in the creation of dramatic visual statements. Mingozzi previously made a number of short films, including a sober documentary on the Mafia influence— With a Stout Heart Sicily.
