THE DAYS OF MATTHEW
Zywot Mateusza
In a lonely part of the forest lives Matthew, cared for by Olga, his sister. He is a grown man, but as helpless as a child, alienated and alone. He takes work in an endeavour to make contact with others, but all his attempts fail. When a stranger enters their home, Matthew sees that he is about to lose Olga. He is obliged to take his first wholly independent action....
Based on a Norwegian novel, this film contains much of the mysticism and solitude of the Scandinavians' feeling for nature. Its rhythms and hieratic beauties show Leszczynski to be a sensitive director who is using cinema for the discussion of philosophical viewpoints.
