A 250-mile highway runs between Swat and Gilgit in the north of Pakistan. Till 1959 the region was isolated, almost inaccessible, immensely beautiful—and known to be rich in mineral and forest resources. So the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers moved in, and this is a documentary study of the feats of engineering that opened up some of the most difficult mountain terrain in the world.
