PICCADILLY

Director E. A. DuPont / 1929 / UK

Made as a silent film, but issued with a music and effects soundtrack and a prologue spoken by John Longden. this crime melo about a club owner's fiancee accused of killing his Chinese mistress shows that. at its best, the British "silent" picture could be as stylish and as visually stunning as anything Hollywood could produce. An evocative portrait of London high (and low) life, its highlights include a novel credits sequence. an early cameo by Charles LHUQNOH, and some energetic dance-band scenes.
