During the Cold War militant unions in Australia supported a film unit which produced over a dozen documentary films. Film Work approaches the films of the Australian Waterside Workers' Federation Film Unit (1953-58) with the empathy of one generation of independent filmmakers in dialogue with the committed work of the recent past.
